ABOUT US
OUR PHYSICIAN

Raghu C. Murthy, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a
board certified Ophthalmologist and a Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon
who has been practicing since 2004. He has offices in
Beverly Hills and South Pasadena. Dr. Murthy completed
his residency in ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute
at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern
California. He completed his fellowship training in Vitreo-Retinal
surgery and a separate fellowship in gene therapy for
ocular diseases at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland,
Oregon.
Dr. Murthy is the chief pediatric retinal specialist
at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is also on staff
at Huntington Memorial Hospital, San Gabriel Valley
Medical Center, and Olympia Medical center. During his
fellowship training, Dr. Murthy developed a special
interest in the medical and surgical treatments for
diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, age-related
macular degeneration and pediatric retinal diseases.
He has been involved in several large studies sponsored
by the National Eye Institute and has authored papers
and book chapters.
Dr. Murthy believes in giving back to the community
and is very active in educating both health care professionals
and patients about diseases of the retina. He is currently
a clinical instructor at the Doheny Eye Institute, University
of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. He is
the retina specialist for the neonatal intensive care
unit and the pediatric unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center; he gives talks to the pediatricians and residents
regarding eye diseases. In addition to having his own
practice, Dr. Murthy volunteers his time with many different
organizations. He is the director of Education and Outreach
for the Los Angeles chapter of The Foundation Fighting
Blindness. Throughout the year he is a prominent lecturer
at meetings sponsored by The Center for the Partially
Blinded and at Continuing Medical Education symposiums
for local optometrists and ophthalmologists. Dr. Murthy
also lectures to patients in local communities and organizations
such as the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Murthy received his M.D. at the University of Florida
School of Medicine, and his B.A. at Princeton University.
He graduated with high honors from the Phillips Exeter
Academy, in Exeter, New Hampshire.
Dr. Murthy is fluent in Spanish, French and Kannada.
He spends his time outside of the office with his wife,
daughter and son. He enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee,
riding motorcycles, hiking, traveling and filmmaking.

Rafael Talavera assists Dr. Murthy
with patient care and performs diagnostic tests.
He is in charge of the day to day operations of
the office. He speaks fluent Spanish and has a strong
interest in Japanese. He likes anime, concerts,
going to the beach and adventures. |

Christian Martinez is an assistant
and fundus photographer. He is a student at Cal
State Los Angeles, majoring in biological sciences.
He speaks fluent Spanish and visits Mexico frequently.
He likes to swim and go to the beach. |

Grace Ting is the office manager
and the biller. She oversees the day to day business
of the office. She speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and
medical Spanish. She enjoys spending time with her
husband and two children, traveling, hiking and
eating good food. |

Patricia Perez is an assistant
and fundus photographer. She speaks fluent Spanish.
She is a student at Rio Hondo College majoring in
administration of justice. She wants to learn more
about the medical field. She likes horseback riding,
movies, cooking and tasting different cuisines.

German Chavez is an assistant
and fundus photographer. He graduated from UC Irvine
in pre-med and International Studies. He speaks
fluent Spanish. He enjoys learning about medicine
and helping patients. His hobbies include reading,
photography and traveling. |
